False: Hairdressers have a higher cancer risk because of chemicals at work, a study shows.
This is not what the study says. One of its authors has confirmed the research was exploratory and established no definite associations between people’s jobs and their risk of ovarian cancer. (Source: Full Fact)

Misleading: At the peak of slavery in 1860, only 1.4% of Americans Owned Slaves.
This is an example of how to lie with statistics. Looking at the whole US population only 1.4% owned slaves, but slavery was only allowed in 15 of 33 states. A more accurate number would be 13%, and depending on the state that number would be as high as 57% in some southern states. (Source: Lead Stories)

The woman wanted to draw attention to the ongoing heat wave. She was proofing the bread in her mailbox but it was not hot enough to bake it. (Source: Snopes)
